Insight into Dubai World Cup

Dubai World Cup, the world’s richest thoroughbred horse race was launched in year 1996 with the vision of Sheikh Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai.

It is held every year at Meydan Racecourse & provides an astounding stage to the best horses of the world to compete each year & showcase their caliber. The race is a part of Dubai World Cup Night of races that is held annually on the last Saturday of March.

The first winner of this horse race was Thoroughbred Cigar owned by Allen E. Paulson who later honored by Racing Hall of Fame, United States.

Dubai World Cup 2019

Running annually since 1996, the 16th edition of Dubai World Cup Carnival is being held at the legendary Meydan Racecourse for 9 consecutive Thursdays, from 3rd January 2019 to February 28. The carnival will terminate with Super Saturday’s race card on March 9, which has been boosted to a record of $2.65 million as prize money. The Super Saturday Race will be considered as a dress rehearsal for the world-record $35 million Dubai World Cup card on 30th March 2019.

The Meydan Group released a list of 202 horses conditioned by 71 trainers from 17 distinct countries on 28th November 2018. Since the races are international, several renowned international stars, high-profile owners & jockeys are set to travel to Dubai to compete for a share of US$12,670,000 prize money—an increase of 12% from 2018.

Dubai World Cup Carnival comprises of 10 race cards including 61 Thoroughbred races and 4 Group Purebred Arabian races.

Dubai World Cup Carnival is all set to aggrandize its reputation as the world’s richest day of horse racing on 30th March 2019. It will feature six Group 1 & three Group 2 fixtures which has total purses for the card increased from $30 million to $35 million.

The Group 1 Dubai World Cup Carnival is sponsored by Emirates Airline & receives a $2 million boost to $12 million. It brags a $7.2 million purse to the winner which is the highest first-place prize in the international thoroughbred racing.
