Al Gaffal Dhow Race 2019

The 29th Al Gaffal Dhow Race will kick start at the small desolate island of Sir Bu Nair, advances towards the east for 50 seafaring miles to the Moon Island before terminating at the iconic Burj Al Arab. Over 100 traditional boats measuring 60 feet (18 meters) each will partake in the long-distance sailing contest organized by DIMC.

Dubai World Cup, the world’s richest thoroughbred horse race was launched in year 1996 with the vision of Sheikh Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai.

Running annually since 1996, the 16th edition of Dubai World Cup Carnival is being held at the legendary Meydan Racecourse for 9 consecutive Thursdays, from 3rd January 2019 to February 28. The carnival will terminate with Super Saturday’s race card on March 9, which has been boosted to a record of $2.65 million as prize money. The Super Saturday Race will be considered as a dress rehearsal for the world-record $35 million Dubai World Cup card on 30th March 2019.

The Meydan Group released a list of 202 horses conditioned by 71 trainers from 17 distinct countries on 28th November 2018. Since the races are international, several renowned international stars, high-profile owners & jockeys are set to travel to Dubai to compete for a share of US$12,670,000 prize money—an increase of 12% from 2018.

Dubai World Cup Carnival comprises of 10 race cards including 61 Thoroughbred races and 4 Group Purebred Arabian races.
